Kinesiology, derived from kinesis (movement), is the study of human movement including physical activity, exercise and sport.

Traditional physical education has been defined as "education through the physical." It has been confused to catch the true meaning of physical education, however, since the terminology was derived from the dualistic tradition of mind and body.

We attempt to make the new definition of physical education by human movement. We can understand 'movement education' such as the mathematics education, therefore, the education of movement can be a similar concept of physical education or its subordinate concept. According to the educational ideals aiming at intellectual, moral, physical education, 'movement education' may be included in physical education and yet traditional physical education can be substituted by 'movement education' within the boundary of education.

Human movement includes in its meaning somatic movements for survival, health, and well-being of human beings, as well as physical activities by the gross-muscles with which traditional physical education deals. It is in this context that the research includes such fields of studies as all kinds of gymnastic activity to promote health, fine motor activity to enhance energetic power, body-mind training to pursue psychological stabilization, occupational therapy and disease/injury prevention/rehabilitation training including voluntary or involuntary movement. As the increase in the demand of human movement, kinesiology expands its boundary and the job market of the exercise professionals would be broaden.

The exercise and sport professionals can be called 'kinesiologists.' We are going to expand the domain of their jobs and to develop their professionalism. They will provide the technical services for human survival, health, and well-being. Also, they will play a significant role in the fields of health/fitness, clinical/rehabilitation areas, and the related management fields as well as in the field of physical education and sport.

The Journal and Congress on Kinesiology will take the role as a pathway for the exercise professionals to strengthen their research abilities and built-in fundamental academic potentials.
